On 12 May 2026, INRGREF organised the first SCALARE Living Lab workshop in Tunisia, bringing together more than 81 participants — including project partners, researchers, practitioners, NGOs, and local stakeholders — to share and discuss the progress achieved within the project so far.
The workshop was structured into two parts. The morning session was dedicated to presentations marking Tunisia's National Day of Agriculture and showcasing SCALARE's activities and early results. In the afternoon, a World Café session brought participants together around three thematic round tables, enabling open exchange and the formulation of concrete recommendations.
The three themes explored were: technical aspects of agroforestry, co-developing new business models, and the role of local knowledge and social norms. For each theme, participants discussed current strengths, key challenges, and the innovation actions needed to strengthen agroforestry systems and support sustainable rural development in the region.
Several NGOs also set up exhibition stands displaying carob-based and other agroforestry products — highlighting the potential of local value chains and community-driven initiatives in promoting sustainable farming.
The strong turnout and lively discussions reflected the growing interest in agroforestry innovation in Tunisia and underlined the value of the Living Lab approach in bringing diverse voices to the table.
